Logger Softball Returns to District P Playoffs in Hendersonville, TN

Lady Loggers advance after beating Parkland 3-2

Lincoln Land Softball will return to Hendersonville, TN this coming weekend to try to earn a second year in a row berth to Nationals.  The Lady Loggers finished as Region XXIV Runner Up this weekend in Mattoon, Illinois.  The Loggers had to beat Parkland in order to face undefeated Illinois Central College in the championship bracket.  The Loggers scored 2 runs in the first inning to take a quick lead.  LLCC stranded 3 runners as Stephanie Watkins lined out to center field.  Parkland came back and scored 1 unearned run in the first inning.  Parkland then scored their second unearned run in the third inning.  Rachel Wisner led off the 6th inning with a base hit and Torey Sorensen executed a perfect sacrifice bunt moving Katie Price who ran for Wisner.  Sophomore catcher Stephanie Watkins singled (RBI) up the middle driving Price home to take the lead 3-2.  Morgan Smith relieved starting pitcher Katie Lange in the bottom of the 6th.  Lange picked up her 11th win against 1 loss (first game of the season on February 21st).  Lange allowed 2 runs and 6 hits with 2 strike outs. Morgan Smith was credited with the save (2).

The Loggers advanced to the championship bracket but needed to be ICC two games in a row in order to advance to Nationals.  The Loggers were held scoreless for the second day in a row against ICC.  The Cougars jumped out to a quick lead scoring 3 runs in the first inning, 2 in the third and 1 in the 4th.  Whitley Baker (L, 8-3) went the distance allowing 6 runs on 7 hits, no walks, and 4 strike outs.  Rachel Wisner was the only Logger with multiple hits going 2-for-3.

Lincoln Land will play Patrick Henry Community College this coming Friday, May 9th.  The playoff is best out of three games with the winner advancing to NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Clinton, MS.  The Loggers are 48-14 on the season.
