LLCC men push past Parkland, 59-55

Michael Cameron leads Loggers with 18 points

The Lincoln Land Loggers stayed on the road and got a huge conference victory over Parkland 59-55.

Lincoln Land came into the game having won 5 of the last 7 games and a win today would mean huge momentum towards post-season seeding. Lincoln Land has struggled to shoot the ball as of late and that trend continued, however Lincoln Land was still able to pull off the victory. Going in to halftime, the Loggers got a huge steal from Kendall Davis and a Michael Cameron bucket as time expired in the first half to cut the Parkland lead, which was as many as 8 points, down to 3. That play could have been the turning point in the game.

The second half saw the Loggers were awarded two technical free throws and that was the spark that Lincoln Land needed. On the possession following the free throws Lincoln Land was able to score and took a 1 point lead. The Loggers were able to hold that lead for all but one possession. During the second half the Loggers were able to gain a lead as high as 8. However, in the closing moments Lincoln Land turned the ball over giving the Parkland Cobras the ball down two with :35 left.

Earlier in the season these teams were in a similar position with Parkland trailing by one in the final moments, and this game proved the same. In tonight's game the Cobras missed a shot and Kendall Davis secured the rebound and knocked down two subsequent free throws to push the lead to the final score of 59-55.

"We are finally winning games that earlier in the year we were losing. The encouraging thing is we have been able to win games without shooting the ball well which is our team's strong skill. This win puts us in great position to move up a few spots for our region tournament," stated Head Coach Chad Jones following the game.

Lincoln Land had three scorers in double digits led by Michael Cameron with 18, Reed Willenborg had 14, and Marcus Graham put in 11.

Lincoln Land looks to continue the hot play Saturday at home as they close the regular season against conference foe Illinois Central College.
