Booneville, MS - February 22, 2014
The 2014 Lincoln Land Community College softball team opened their season today in Booneville, Mississippi. The Loggers went 1-2 on the day, beating Holmes College 14-6 and losing to Jefferson College (10-1) and Gadsden College (6-5).
The Loggers were out slugged by Jefferson College 11 hits to 3. Laura Bonds, Claire Dubree and Rachel Wisner were the only players for the Loggers that posted hits in the defeat. Rachel Wisner's only hit was a solo homerun in the 4
th inning to give the Loggers their only run. Katie Lange received the loss in game one, going 4 innings and giving up 9 runs (7 earned). The Loggers committed 2 errors along with several mental mistakes that gave the edge to Jefferson College.
The Loggers' bats came alive in game two, as they out hit Holmes 14-13. The Loggers had big blasts from freshman Rachel Hastings and Payton Billups. Hasting's first inning, 2 RBI homer gave the Loggers a quick lead. Payton Billups followed with 3 RBI homer in the second inning. Holmes did not score until the 5
th inning as they scored 6 runs off freshman pitcher Sadie Mosher (1 earned). Claire Dupree picked up her first win of the season allowing only 5 hits in her 3 innings of work. Katie Price was 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs, Laura Bonds was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Melinda Wilson, Kayla Jacobs and Torey Sorensen each added 2 hits each.
The Loggers battled back three times in game three against Gadsden before losing 6-5. Sophomore Jaimey Watrous was the only Logger to have multiple hits, as she went 2 for 2 with 1 RBI. Sadie Mosher was 1 for 2 with a homer in the 4
th inning.
Lincoln Land Community College is 1-2 and will face host school NEMCC at 1:30 pm tomorrow followed by NWCC at 3:15 pm.
