LLCC Announces Fall 2014 Athletic Honors

Springfield, IL –

Lincoln Land Community College announces fall athletic honors for Region XXIV and MWAC.  LLCC Volleyball received 5 All-Region honors and 3 MWAC All-Conference on the 7 player team.  Men's Soccer had 2 players selected to All-Region and 1 Honorable Mention along with 1 MWAC All-Conference player and 3 Honorable Mentions.

Brenna Perinar (Minooka HS) was selected as the MWAC Freshman of the Year and named 2nd Team All-Region.  Perinar "Best Opposite Hitter" season in school history with 375 kills, 270 digs, 79 blocks, and 41 aces for 460 total points.  Coach Jim Dietz commented, ""It was easy to see Brenna's improvement as the year went along.  On our end of things, she became a primary serve-receive passer, something we've never had a right-side do, but you could tell from the other side of things.  The top teams started game-planning for Brenna and making sure they didn't get caught with a single blocker out there--they made sure she had two.  Even with that she still had twenty matches with double-digit kills."

Former Nokomis High School standout, Sammie Voils was selected 1st Team All-Region and 1st Team MWAC All-Conference. Voils produced 322 kills, 99 blocks, and hit over .300 in nine different matches against ranked teams.  "Sammie was great this year for us, though her numbers were down from last year--last year we used her on the outside, so she got some extra swings, but this year we were able to use her in the middle where she hit .281 and used her blocking to force opponents away from attacking in the middle."

Tessa Amsden (Columbia HSW) joined her teammates with post season honors; 2nd Team All-Region and 1st Team MWAC All-Conference.  Amsden had 39 aces and 736 digs the season.  Coach Dietz stated, "We used to have liberoes pile up great dig totals, but haven't lately.  That's how you know Tessa's good.  Other teams won't hit at her, won't serve at her, and rightfully.  She was steady all year."

Freshman Tiffany Sunderlin from Claymont High School was 1st Team MWAC All-Conference and Honorable Mention for All-Region.  Amsden led LLCC in kills with 465, breaking the school record held by former LLCC assistant, Kelly Wajda, who had 464 kills during the 2007 season.  Sunderlin broke the record playing in 17 less games and 180 less swings.  "Tiffany had a great year hitting on the left for us this season, and even chipped in 300-plus digs and 48 aces."

Freshman from Stewardson Strasburg High School Brittani Tabbert was selected 2nd All-Region, finished with 358 kills and 356 digs, and eleven double-doubles.  Tabbert was also Honorable Mention MWAC. She hit .350 in the Region Championship loss against #1 ranked Parkland College. Coach Dietz said, "Brittani's another in our long line of kids from Stew-Stras who've helped us to great success.  You don't ever have to comment on work ethic, don't have to worry about competitiveness.  I love that."

Freshman Adrian Manzano, midfielder for Men's Soccer was selected 1st team All-Region; Defensive Forward of the Region and 1st team MWAC All-Conference.   Manzano was the leading scorer for the Loggers with 13 goals and 2 assists.  Coach Shawn Dunas stated, "Adrian was an offensive key to us being competitive in most games this season.  The end of the season, Adrian played up top by himself and handled the pressure of 2-3 defenders in every match."

Naba Alzhyri was selected Honorable Mention to Region XXIV and the MWAC by adding 5 goals and 1 assist to give some offensive punch for the Loggers. "Naba was the nucleus to our midfield from the second half the season and moving forward…he is very good at going east to west and taking the pressure off of our defense.  Naba was also very instrumental initiating many of our attacks."

Riverton graduate Kevin Bertolino, 1st team All-Region and Honorable Mention MWAC was the Loggers strongest and most consistent defender this season. "Kevin rarely got beat on the left side and when he did, he always recovered and hustled back to help stop the attack…he was a very smart player who didn't run the ball over and created offensive attack from the back.  Bertolino also helped attacks by making overlapping runs of the back and then using his strong left foot to send in crosses."

Logger freshman goalkeeper Jake Oldani (Harrisburg High School) also received Honorable Mention to the MWAC All-Conference team.
