The Lady Loggers defeat the Cobras from Parkland College 5-1 in the opening game today of the Region 24 Tournament. The Loggers then advanced to play Heartland Community College in the second game of the day. The Loggers won game two 4-3. Game three pitted the Loggers against Illinois Central College. In the double elimination tournament, the Loggers needed to beat the Cougars twice in order to win the Region Tournament. The Loggers scored first taking a 2-0 on the Cobras. ICC came back to take the lead and the victory defeating the Loggers 8-3. LLCC finished the tournament as runner up and will advance to play Surrey College in the District P Championship this Friday in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Claire Dubree (5-8 record) picked up the win in game one, allowing only 1 run on 7 hits and 4 strike outs. Payton Billups had a 2 run homer in the 4
th inning and Sam Remmert had a solo homer in the top of the 7
th.
Katie Lange was the winning pitcher in game two against Heartland. Lange allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and 3 strike outs. Laura Bonds led the Logger hitters going 3-for-4 with 1 RBI. Lauren Windisch and Melinda Wilson added 2 hits each in the win.
Leading Logger pitcher (9-4) started the third game of the day against ICC. Smith, picked up the loss and went 4 1/3 innings allowing 8 runs all earned. Katie Lange relieved Smith and to finish out the game. The Loggers had three hitters with multiple hits. Katie Price was 2-for-4 and Torey Sorensen was 2-for-3. Melinda Wilson also added two hits including a solo homer in the 6
th. Stephanie Watkins also homered in the 2
nd inning.
