Region 24 Softball Tournament was moved to the East Side Complex in East Peoria due to rain in Mattoon, Illinois today. The Loggers finished their first round game against John Wood, winning 8-2. The game was resumed in the 3
rd inning with the Loggers on top 2-0. John Wood scored 1 run in the 4
th inning but the Loggers responded with 2 in the bottom half and 4 more in the 5
th.
Chantel Jennings went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI including a double in the 2
nd inning last week. Kayla Jacobs was 2-for-4 with 1 RBI. Morgan Smith (9-3 record) was the winning pitcher. Smith allowed 2 runs on 8 hits and struck out 3 Blazers.
The Loggers advanced in the winner’s bracket to face conference champs Heartland Hawks. After 4 ½ innings the score was 1-0 Heartland. Then the wheels came off the wagon…the Hawks scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 5
th to put the finishing runs on the board to beat the Loggers 7-0. The Hawks out-hit the Loggers, 13-2 in game two. Whitley Baker, now 4-4 on the year, picked up the loss.
The Loggers advance to face Parkland in the loser’s bracket on Tuesday in East Peoria at 2 pm.
