Booneville, MS – The LLCC softball team traveled to Booneville, MS to open their season at the Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigerfest.
Game one of the tournament ended in losing to Baton Rouge 1-0 in 9 innings (double tie breaker). Claire Dubree (0-1) pitched an outstanding opening game with very little support from her teammates. Dubree struck out 13 of their batters while 22/27 outs ended in strikeouts for the Loggers. Torey Sorensen had the only hit in the first game, a double in the 2
nd inning.
Game two on the day pitted the Loggers with 10
th pre-season ranked Muskegon Community College. The Loggers trailed in the 3
rd inning 2-0 and then the wheels came off. Muskegon scored 7 runs in the 4
th and 1 run in the 5
th to end the game early for the Loggers. Katie Lange got the loss (0-1). Chantel Jennings, Kayla Jacobs, and Morgan Stephens each had one hit in the game.
Game three was a better game for the Loggers. LLCC lost to Pearl River 6-3. With the score tied 2-2 after 4 innings of play, the Loggers took the lead in the 5
th inning 3-2 on a double by Morgan Stephens. Pearl River came back strong in the bottom of the 5
th scoring 4 runs to defeat the Loggers in a time limit game 6-3. Morgan Smith was the losing pitcher for the Loggers (0-1).
Lincoln Land will face Southwest Tennessee Community College and the host team Northeast Mississippi Community College on Sunday.
