Lincoln Land was in Lincoln, Illinois to participate in the Lincoln Lynx Shootout and matched up with the Black Hawk East Warriors. The Loggers came up short tonight, losing to the Warriors 76-75. It was a tightly tested game the whole way. No one led by more than 7 points the entire game.
The Loggers were down 1 point with: 11 left in the game and Kendall Davis was able to knock in a free throw to tie the game and the Loggers held on defense to send it to overtime. In OT neither team was able to distance themselves however, the Loggers did lead by 4 points with 1:08 to go. LLCC then committed two straight turnovers and the Warriors tied the game at 75-75. With: 40 left the Loggers again turned the ball over and the Warriors took advantage. Torrance Evans was fouled driving to the lane with: 01.8 left and was able to knock in one free throw to take the score to 76-75. A last ditch effort by the Loggers was not in time as the shot missed wide and the Warriors walked away victorious.
"We played a pretty good game, but let them get back in with some silly turnovers down the stretch. All in all we were right there. We need to learn to close at the end and we will be alright," Coach Chad Jones reflected.
This is two tough losses in a row for the Loggers who fall to 3-2 on the season and look to rebound tomorrow in Lincoln when they take on WIU's club team.
The Loggers were led in scoring by Kendall Davis who put in a game high 23 points and six boards. Sophomore Marcus Graham added 18 points and Freshman Corey Evak pulled down a team high 8 boards. The Loggers were out rebounded by 1 and this is the second game in a row they've been out rebounded and that will be a key for the Loggers to win games moving forward.
