LLCC splits two matches at Iowa Central Invitational

Voils
DMACC was rough for LLCC. After winning the first game, the Loggers fell behind quickly in the second game, losing 18-25. In the third game, LLCC spotted #13 Des Moines Area a 10-1 lead, coming back to tie the game at 23, before failing to score on five straight game points, losing 27-29. In the final game, LLCC again spotted DMACC a lead before roaring back, but unfortunately, the #13 team won 25-22.

"We had 47 unforced error in the match, and you can't beat anyone when you have that number of mistakes. It's sad because it wasted a great match of hitting by Sammie Voils and a good performance by Jordan Ballinger (who had a season high of five blocks)"

In the first game of the second match, Lincoln Land made seven service errors with seven additional hitting errors, giving fourteen free points to the host school, enough for Iowa Central to eek out a 29-27 victory. Lincoln Land finally picked it up in the next three games, making only eighteen total errors over the final three games.

Coach Jim Dietz reflecting after the second match,"It was very frustrating as a coach because I can't go out and play. Once we were able to find a rhythm and keep the ball in play, we did very well. Michaleen Forman had a great match hitting (16 kills) while Tessa Amsden picked up 5 aces and 22 digs, and was near-perfect with her serve receive. But it is all about the errors and communication. When those disappear, we struggle. When we have them--we are good. Of course, some of this could be from playing two matches right after a seven hour trip, and that may have hurt us against DMACC especially. We won't have that excuse tomorrow though when we face Ellsworth and #22 Butler.

Game Results:
#9 LLCC loses to #13 Des Moines Area 25-23, 18-25, 27-29, 23-25
#9 LLCC defeats Iowa Central 27-29, 25-21, 25-19, 25-16
