Curtis was selected NJCAA All-America first team in 1993 with a batting average of .438. His two-year batting average was .392. Curtis moved on to play baseball at Memphis State University where he holds records for most games played and RBIs in a single season and was named All-Great Midwest Conference first-team shortstop and All-Tournament first team.
