He was the first LLCC athlete to win a regional championship and to place at the national track meet in shot put. In 1970, Robert was named the First Athlete of the Year. He was a two time participant at nationals and is the college record holder in the shot put. He attended Eastern Illinois University and was a two year letter winner in track. He coached for ten years at Mahomet-Seymour High School where he had 42 individual champions in track and wrestling. In addition, he also coached two girls track championship teams.
